Income Protection Plus
for RCGP Registrars

You’re training to become a GP, dedicating your life to caring for others, often while juggling placements, exams, and financial uncertainty. But have you ever thought how you would support yourself if illness or injury stopped you from working?
Your income fuels your journey, helping you stay independent, progress through training, and build the future you’ve worked so hard for. But illness or injury could interrupt that journey, leaving you without the income you rely on to get by. You might have access to sick pay for a while, some savings set aside, or support from family, but how long would that last? And what would the impact be on your lifestyle, your momentum, and your ability to focus on the future you’re building?
That’s where Income Protection Plus from PG Mutual comes in.
Income Protection Plus is designed with GPs in mind, including those still in training. If you were unable to work due to illness or injury, we could provide you with a regular replacement income so that your outgoings are covered until you recover or reach age 65 (whichever comes first).
Whether you’re working as a salaried GP, locum, or combining placements with part-time roles, our Income Protection is flexible to suit your needs.
PG Mutual and the RCGP are working together to bring you Income Protection Plus at a discounted rate. RCGP registrars are entitled to a 15% discount on their first five years’ premiums, ensuring you are protected throughout the rest of your GP training, into your early years of independent practice and beyond.*
If you are a fully qualified GP and RCGP member an alternative offer is available to you.

How Income Protection Plus
has helped a General Practitioner
Take Bijal (his name has been changed but his case is a real example). He had been working as a GP, both privately and for the NHS. He was in his mid-thirties and expecting a baby with his wife when he was diagnosed with a progressive neurological disorder which slowly reduced his ability to work before having to stop working entirely.
Initially, for the first six months, he was covered partly by the private practice and partly by the NHS, but he was soon in a position where these payments came to an end.
As a member of PG Mutual who had chosen Level Benefit he started claiming his income protection benefit of £4,000 per month and will continue to do so until he reaches the age of 65.
